Max Bennett and Emilia Campbell rekindle their friendship after several years apart, while they are happy to see each other again, both are wary of the chemistry between them. Together, they catch up on history and the childhood memories, and life goes on. While Max is sure that he is really attracted to Emilia, he is unsure if he wants to test their friendship by going romantic.
Things have been tough for poor Emilia, first her grandmother’s mental state was deteriorating, then she was jilted at the alter. Forgive her if she has been wary of a new relationship. As Max tries to convince her that she is the one for him, Emilia has reservations.
Your Inescapable Love is another one of Layla Hagen’s amazing Bennett family series, although it can be read as a standalone, it is better with the others. You get to meet the Bennett Brood, and their respective love stories. So far I enjoy the stories, because they are unique and not much repetition. Family love is not and should not be the barrier to finding true love.
Midsummer Dreams Author: Alison May Publisher: Choc Lit ASIN: B00XJOEJTM Cover and Link from Amazon Genre: Young adults, rewrites Synopsis from Amazon: Four people. Four messy lives. One night that changes everything … Emily is obsessed with ending her father’s new relationship – but is blind to the fact that her own is far from perfect. Dominic has spent so long making other people happy that he’s hardly noticed he’s not happy himself. Helen has loved the same man, unrequitedly, for ten years. Now she may have to face up to the fact that he will never be hers. Alex has always played the field. But when he finally meets a girl he wants to commit to, she is just out of his reach. At a midsummer wedding party, the bonds that tie the four friends together begin to unravel and show them that, sometimes, the sensible choice is not always the right one.
I got this from Netgalley, attracted by the title: Midsummer Dreams and the cover of four young people. We have Emily, who has had a sheltered life and friends with Helen, who has money issues. Emily is dating Dom, and Alex is Helen’s new housemate.
Introductions aside, Midsummer Dreams is like Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, except that fairies do not show up in this book at all, they may or may not have a role in the story, but there is no talk of supernatural beings in the book.
Emily has family issues, Helen’s financial issues coupled with her crush is Emily’s boyfriend. While her housemate Alex has optimism, Dom is struggling to make himself happy with his life, even though everything is as it should be.
A modern twist to the well known story, Misummer Dreams is a recommended read, particularly if you had troubles understanding the hidden messages in the original one. This can be a cause for discussion between purist and those who think the rewrite is better.
But I myself think that it is a good rewrite, but the original still has its magic.
First Impressions Author: Charlie Lovett Genre: Mystery, romance, history, books ISBN-13: 978-0143127727 Cover and link from Amazon Synopsis from Amazon: Book lover and Austen enthusiast Sophie Collingwood has recently taken a job at an antiquarian bookshop in London when two different customers request a copy of the same obscure book: the second edition of A Little Book of Allegories by Richard Mansfield. Their queries draw Sophie into a mystery that will cast doubt on the true authorship of Pride and Prejudice—and ultimately threaten Sophie’s life.
I maybe not be a Janeite, but it is hard to ignore a novel with Jane Austen featuring in it. First Impressions is a novel that flips between Jane Austen and Sophie Collingwood, weaving both fates together into a mystery featuring a bibliophile. The book tells about the value of books, not only in terms of monetary but the sentimental value of things.
For Jane Austen, her passion to write has been fueled by Richard Mansfield, it was him who had encouraged her to finish her stories in writing. Going between two women in separate eras, I could see that the author likes Jane Austen, but did not research the era enough that the manner of speech seemed more modern than it should be. I am just nitpicking, it is easier for me to read modern conversations.
Sophie was asked to find a very rare second edition of A Little Book of Allegories, she stumbles across a secret that could affect her favorite author. The mystery deepens when there is competition, and her love life suddenly improves with the arrival of two dashing men.
As Sophie digs deeper, she realizes that that book might be the end of her. Who is the villain in this story? Possibly everyone! I had my suspicions, but the author had made it hard to guess until the very end with the great reveal.
While the story has a happy ending, I had almost believed the story to be real. It was a disappointment of sorts when I realized that Richard Mansfield was a made up character the author dreamed up after Mansfield Park.
I am devastated, but at the same time impressed with the story telling. Sophie was a strong character I could easily relate to, but others seemed a little flat. Overall the book was entertaining and I had enjoyed reading it. The mystery was good and fun if you are looking for one.
Borrowed this from the library because the synopsis was interestingly intriguing. The heroine, let’s call her Jane woke up with amnesia in a hospital. She was met with a pair of siblings, and they claimed that she and the brother (let’s call him James) are lovers. and that they were ecstatic to see her awake and recovering.
If you think that this is your run in the mill amnesia love story where the girl tries to recall her past and it turns sinister. It’s not.
Sorry to disappoint.
It is not sinister, the story revolves around James’ deception, but what is the motive?
As you go along the story, you would realize that the love might be real, and then you wonder if it would stand the test of reality? Is Jane really that gullible as to believe every word James said?
The book is quite romantic, and a little bittersweet as the motive behind this who shenanigans was because of realities of rich people’s kids. Sometimes love does come in funny places, but for James, he had to fight for it.
I could tell you what happen, but that would spoil it.
Your Irresistible Love is a heartwarming story starring Sebastian Bennett and Ava Lindt, Bennett Enterprises is a big company selling high end jewelry, where everything is designed at made in the workshop next door. Jewelry is something you give to someone you love, and when it comes to love and romance, nothing is too expensive. That was how Sebastian Bennett’s idea became big.
Then you have Ava Lindt, a marketing consultant hired to provide a fresh view on things. Ava herself is an orphan who had always looked after herself, which is a contrast to Sebastian’s close knit family of six boys and three girls. The girl’s got strength, and nerves of steel.
From the beginning, they hit off, it was just a matter of time before Sebastian wins the romance ‘game’ they were playing. Ava’s reluctance was not due to him being unattractive, but it set up a plot that would come into play later. But the cat and mouse chase was fun and quite endearing. I like the fact that Ava didn’t immediately jump into the covers, or Sebastian was playing too much bad guy stint.
Like most romance stories, it is touching, there are things that the guy does that is lovely, or something the girl gives up to show how much she loves him. In Your Irresistible Love, it is love that runs the story, but not just romance; family plays a big part too. I totally like how there are minor plots at play, it changes the way the story goes, but not enough to damage outlook.
Your Irresistible Love maybe a predictable romance, you may know the ending before you even start. But the journey, that is one that warms your heart, and give you hope that true love exist.
Demon Princess: Demon Kingdom Fairy Tales Book One Author: Kassandra Lynn ASIN: B019QKN3E4 Series: Demon Kingdom Fairy Tales 1 Genre: paranormal romance, young adult Cover and Link from Amazon Synopsis from Amazon: With her father gone and her brother missing, Demon Princess Adriana has to assume the throne, temporarily becoming the Demon King. The procession is underway, and the princess is nervous yet determined … until the unthinkable happens and she is summoned! Somehow, Aldric, a mage-in-training has summoned the princess into the human kingdom. Now trapped, Adriana must hide her identity and escape before she loses her life in the hands of her mortal enemies
For starters, I would have loved to see Princess Adriana’s scarlet dress on the book cover, but this one shows the dress she wore sometime after. During her coronation to be the temporary Demon King in the absence of her father and brother, Adriana was afraid that she would not be competent enough to rule.
She didn’t have to worry about that part though, no sooner than the coronation ceremony begins Adriana was summoned. Somehow, some mage- in- training had managed to summon Princess Adriana as his summon beast. Things get interesting from then on, with Aldric, her new master being ridiculed for summoning a useless human and Adriana being stuck with a bond.
Finding a way to break the bond, Adriana has to keep her identity a secret and enlist the help of Keldrin, a level A mage for help. He is the only one who is always kind to her, and unfortunately he is also off limits, for a lot of reasons.
Book one of Demon Kingdom Fairy tales is even paced, fairly adventurous story about a Demon Princess, but there are a lot of elements waiting to be explored. This is a great start for those who wants to start the journey with Adriana, and watch her grow into someone who is magnificent and strong. But I do wonder if she would be happy, I hope that she will be.
No sooner does psychic Lottie Baldwin pull up stakes and move to Cheyenne, North Dakota, than she finds herself up to her neck in a series of mysterious robberies. Elizabeth Delisi is an award-winning author of mystery, romance and paranormal stories. She lives in New Hampshire with her husband-hero, dog and bird. Elizabeth loves hearing from her readers at elizabethdelisi.blogspot.com , facebook.com/edelisi , and twitter.com/delisi .
The third book of the Lottie Baldwin mysteries, Madame Carlotta aka Lottie moved to Cheyenne to separate herself from her ex- boyfriend, Jack. On her way she met deputy Sheriff Harlan Erikson and thus begins a new dawn for Lottie.
When a series of mysterious robberies began to haunt the residents of Cheyenne, Lottie’s premonition might lead them to answers, that is if only she is not silenced before she tells.
Only a short read, Lottie seems to be a magnet for crimes and troubles, her psychic abilities, whether you believe it or not, has helped her more than one occasion. Could she decipher it in time before the robber robs her of something precious?
I had no problems reading this as a standalone, and if you like short mysteries, Madame Carlotta is entertaining and full of life.
Fallen Redemption Author: RB Austin Publisher: Soul Mate Publishing ISBN-13: 978-1619354623 Genre: paranormal romance Series: The Trihune Series: Book 1 Cover and Link from Amazon Synopsis from Amazon: Cade committed himself to saving lives before he learned the full consequences of his life-altering decision. It wasn’t until he was tending his sick wife that he learned the enormity of what he’d done and he was unable to save her from the monster he had become. Consumed with guilt and praying for absolution, he threw himself into killing every Fallen he could find to save the humans he’d sworn to protect. But then Emma, deliciously mortal and completely forbidden, swept into his world, stirring an overpowering desire. Now he’s not only fighting soulless creatures, but also his inner cravings, trying to maintain his distance and continue on his path to forgiveness. He can’t afford to lose control again and sacrifice another love.
1729, Caderyn O’Cearnaigh of Llangwyllog was turned into a Behn when the smallpox struck their little town, taking the lives of his children. That was a long time ago, now, Cade is a leader of Sept One Behnshmas, charged to to protect humans (The Followers) from Apollyon’s Fallen.
Then in present day, Emma found herself swept into Cade’s life, confused and frightened after the attack. Both characters find themselves stumbling their way into a relationship. Cade is someone or something that was charged to protect humans from the dangerous world of Fallen, soulless things that only know how to hurt and consume.
Although the story line is nothing new, the characters and the careful planning helps establish a unique combination that manages to keep me interested. First we have Cade, a mess of a man, someone riddled with guilt and self- loathing after what had happened to his first wife back in 1729. When he met Emma, a beautiful person inside and out, his protective streak comes flaring back. This causes some conflict and it was fun to read, the supportive characters were there to cause more trouble. In the end, Fallen Redemption is not just a story about good versus evil or the fight to protect mankind from evils of Apollyon’s Fallen. This is a story about love and forgiveness, and how a person’s trust can change course of things.
There are a few characters in the book given to me by the author for a fair review, I appreciate that I was given Fallen Redemption as I will be reading Fallen Darkness soon.
Privileged, wealthy, and wild: they are the Perfect Gentlemen of Creighton Academy. But the threat of a scandal has one of them employing his most deceptive—and seductive—talents… Recruited into the CIA at a young age, Connor Sparks knows how dirty the world can be. Only when he’s with his friends can he find some peace. So when an anonymous journalist threatens one of the Perfect Gentlemen, Connor vows to take down the person behind the computer, by whatever means necessary—even if it means posing as his target’s bodyguard. Publishing a tabloid revealing Washington’s most subversive scandals has earned Lara Armstrong the ire of the political scene—and a slew of death threats. To keep herself from ending up a headline, Lara hires a bodyguard, a man as handsome as he is lethal. When the bullets start to fly, Lara is surprised to find herself in Connor’s arms. But as they begin to unravel a mystery that just might bring down the White House, Lara is devastated when she discovers Connor’s true identity—and finds herself at the mercy of forces who will stop at nothing to advance their deadly agenda.
“What belongs to me? Be specific. I want the words.” “My pussy belongs to you. I belong to you. No matter what I do, I know I belong to you. I love you. I love you so much, Connor.” She poured her heart into those words, willing him to believe her. “And I belong to you. No matter what I fucking do. You remember that. You take those words and memorize them because no matter what happens, they’re true and they’re going to stay true. I won’t let you take them back. Ever.” She wouldn’t want to. “I love you.” “That means everything to me, princess.” He withdrew his fingers and gripped her hips. She felt his erection probe between her thighs. “I’ve never wanted anything the way I want you. Remember that, too.” She couldn’t reply because the head of his cock breached her in one hard thrust. He didn’t ease into her or give her time to adjust. He gave her every inch he had, holding her hips and forcing himself inside her. She was invaded and dominated. He controlled and conquered. A shock of tingles rolled through her body. She whimpered. “Push back against me,” he commanded. She thrust back and tossed her head at the feel of him sliding in to the hilt. It was almost too much. He held himself steady, and his left hand slid up to her breasts. He shoved the bra above her mounds and cupped her as he pulled out and stroked back in. He thumbed her nipple then gave it a twist. “Never again, Lara. I swear to god if you lie to me again, I won’t be responsible for what I do to you. I’ll tie you to the bed and I won’t ever let you leave again. Your whole life will be about taking my cock. You won’t see the fucking outside world. You’ll spend every day on your back and your knees and any other way that pleases me.” She found him endlessly amusing when he was angry. Somehow she couldn’t see him actually turning her into a sex slave, but she was sure in the moment it seemed like a viable option to him. He twisted her nipple again, and a pleasurable pain shimmered through her. She responded before he could do it again. “Yes, Connor. I won’t see the light of day. I understand.” “I’ll chain you to me, Lara.” He anchored his hands back on her hips as he thrust in and out of her body in rough, rhythmic strokes. “I won’t let you leave my sight. Fuck, you feel so good.” She let her head fall back, giving over to the euphoria of having Connor inside her. He was so big. When he filled her, she always had a moment when she wasn’t sure she could handle it, but she ached to try. And once she succeeded in accommodating every inch of him . . . She groaned. There was nothing like it. There was certainly no one like him. He caressed every bit of her skin that he could reach, her breasts and her belly, the curves of her waist and hips, before he found her clitoris again and strummed it—fucking her with force all the while. Lara pressed back against him. If she hadn’t, the strength of his thrusts would have sent her headfirst into the wall. Still, he didn’t hold back. He simply picked up the pace and she moved with him. The push and pull of his strokes formed a rhythm she sank into. Over and over his cock sank deep before he dragged back out, sensitizing her flesh and drawing her to the edge. She groaned as he toyed with her clitoris in earnest now. “I can’t hold out. You feel so good. You’re so hot and tight around me. Come for me, princess.” ABOUT SHAYLA BLACK: Shayla Black is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than forty novels. One thing I like about Lexi Blake, she can write alpha males well (sorry Shayla Black, I haven’t read you before.) Connor Sparks has to play bodyguard to Lara Armstrong, the owner of Capitol Scandals that runs political scandals. When Lara received death threats, her senator father got her a bodyguard.
A real hunk of a bodyguard.
Connor Sparks has a history, it is known from the beginning that he had brains, and was part of Perfect Gentlemen, the odd one out in the group. He had done well with his life even though he was given the shorter deck. Now, one of his friends is in trouble with CS, Connor wants to make sure nothing bad happens to him. He would employ all his skills to get what his wants, hence Seduction in Session.
When Lara realizes that things are more serious than they seem, Connor seems to be there for her, acting as her bullet proof shield, looking after her every needs. What would happen if she finds out who Connor really is? Is Connor really just a bodyguard she had come to trust?
The action and the tension aside, Seduction in Session is explosive in many ways that makes a girl go wild. Who does not want a man who can look after a girl well, someone who loves as fiercely as he protects. I am in love with Connor, even though he is a fictitious character. I wonder if Taylor Lautner is a suitable guy to be casted, or it was more like Bruce Willis when he was like 20 years younger?
I have to recommend this, I love the fact that it is not too mushy for me, Lara is a strong girl, and her strength can really make you wonder if it was stubbornness or she’s just being an idiot, however, it does make entertaining read. Definitely a hot action type romance story.
The Truth About Him Author: M. O’Keefe Publisher: Bantam Publication Date: November 24, 2015 ASIN: B00TWEMGRK Genre: Romance, thriller Cover and Link from Amazon My synopsis: Dylan and Annie are back, both determined to move ahead with life. When their pasts come back to bite them, will they stay true to each other?
Annie and Dylan are back for more erotic scenes and conflicts. Last book: Everything I Left Unsaid saw Annie and Dylan knowing each other through a phone. This time, Annie is painfully aware that she does not belong in Dylan’s world, and Dylan wants nothing more than to avoid her getting hurt.
While love is in the air, their pasts has come back to haunt them in different degrees. First up was Annie’s husband, then came Dylan’s happy family issues. This looks like the ending of the book, it ties up beautifully the love story between the two.
Although I have to say, after reading both books, is that it is quite possible to have it condensed into one book without hurting much of the story line. The story would be quicker in pace, but it would be a much preferred read for me.
While Annie and Dylan appears to be at peace with each other’s decisions and thoughts, I wonder why the other characters took a serious backseat from before. It would be nice if the father stepped forward a little more, or a more serious family feud that is more of a threat.
The story is good, the plot was solid, it is an enjoyable erotic thriller stories. If that rocks your boat, this is worth it. Although I do miss the phone sex, not sure why I liked the phone sex so much.
